APEC summit: Russia ready to help settle global crisis

13.11.2010, 15:04
November 13th is the first day of the Yokohama APEC summit. The leaders of the 21 regional economies have been put up at a hotel in the form of a huge sail on the Tokyo Bay shores. The Russian president’s neighbour is his Filipino counterpart Benigno Aquino, on the right, and Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, on the left. The idyllic background, however, fails to take the edge off the tense discussions on the agenda. All discussion is focused on Change and Action. The parties to the summit will specifically focus on ways to cope with the global financial crisis, ways to prop up the many-sided trade system, promote economic integration, and strengthen national security, including its food and energy components. According to the Russian President’s aide Sergei Prikhodko, the Russian leader will set forth Russia’s stand on all these issues. He will specifically offer assurances that Russia is prepared to contribute to the efforts of other state and government heads to cope with the ongoing world economic crisis and prevent similar situations from emerging again.
