Pakistan Police Arrests Injured Taliban Commander

Eurasia Review

Police in Pakistani Southern Karachi port arrested a key Taliban commander in a wounded condition, sources said on Tuesday.

A joint team of police and intelligence agency, acting on a tip-off, raided a hospital in the city, police sources told KUNA.

They said a heavy contingent of police surrounded the hospital. Adding that the Taliban commander was receiving medical treatment, he has been arrested and shifted to an undisclosed location.

Sources further said that the commander has been identified as Ser Zameen Khan and belongs to Tehrik-i-Taliban-Pakistan (TTP)- Sawat chapter.

Pakistani security forces conducted an operation in Swat in 2007 as the TTP led by Mullah Fazlullah started forcefully enforcing Taliban-style strict Islamic Shariah in the region.

He was trying to create a state within a state. Hundreds of militants were arrested, wounded and killed.
